Future Pakistani medal hope, boxer Qudratullah slipped from Commonwealth Games
The 20-year-old competed in Glasgow and made history last year by becoming the first man to bag Islamic Solidarity Games 2025
Pakistani boxer and the Islamic Solidarity Games 2025 bronze medallist Qudratullah has disappeared after participating in the 2026 Commonwealth Games, which concluded on August 2.
The 20-year-old was a part of the 21-member Pakistani contingent and was among the five boxers who competed at the Games.
Qudratullah became the first male boxer to win a medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games last year, and was aiming to qualify for the Los Angeles Olympics as his greater goal.
In Glasgow, he competed in two bouts of the 60kg event. He won his first bout against Fiji’s Jone Davule in the round of 32 but lost in the next bout against Northern Ireland’s Jude Gallagher.
Qudratullah started boxing four years ago, when he was discovered by a local boxing coach on the streets, where he was working as a labourer.
Qudratullah would make ends meet by working as a line cook at a street stall; he was making parathas at a local dhaba till earlier this year, before joining the National Camp to prepare for the Games.
The 2025 National Games silver medallist was expected to be one of the key athletes for the Pakistan Boxing Federation, but his running away in Glasgow has left everyone shocked.
“Unfortunately, it is true,” an official confirmed the news of Qudratullah’s disappearance.
The pugilist slipped, perhaps to find a better life in Europe, but he has damaged his own reputation along with Pakistan’s with his decision.
Lost on the Desk was also in contact with his till July 26, but his phones are not responding when we tried to connect with him before filing this report.
At the 2022 Commonwealth Games, two boxers vanished as well, and Pakistan’s 2024 Paris Olympic qualifying round participant also slipped after his bout in Italy.
